Welcome to 2026. Just in case we thought that things couldn’t get much worse, the Trump regime wasted no time creating a new debacle.
By now you have undoubtedly heard that Trump has used the military to invade Venezuela without provocation and kidnap its leader. He has claimed the right to invade another country without consultation or approval by Congress, in direct violation of the War Powers Resolution of 1973 and the rules-based international order established by the UN Charter after WWII. With this act, the U.S. has shown it is a big power willing to attack a smaller power without provocation, condoning the right of any great power to use force to establish spheres of influence anywhere in the world. Other dictators – especially Putin and Xi – are watching; they will surely follow suit if this action goes unopposed. Our unprovoked act of war has created worldwide instability.
